Pantry moths are different than the moths you might think of who leave holes in your clothes. The most common type of pantry moth in the UK is the Indian meal moth and they can be found in various stored foods.
How did you get pantry moths?
Chances are, they came into your house through dried foods such as pasta, cereal, rice and flour. Any stored food like these can contain a moth infestation that could soon spread to your kitchen cupboards.

Vacuum your cupboard shelves or wherever you were storing infested foods to get rid of remaining moths and cocoons, and then wash them well with warm soapy water.

Wait a week or so if you can before you replace your dried goods until you’re certain the infestation is gone, and be sure to store dried goods in glass or plastic storage containers once you replace them to prevent further infestation.

How can I prevent pantry moths?
Preventing the infestation in the first place is far easier than getting rid of the moths. As the most likely source of infestation is the dried food you buy, consider washing cans and containers before you put them in your cupboard and store goods in sealed containers where possible as mentioned above. Limiting the number of dried goods you have sitting on your shelves will also help, so try to only buy what you’re going to use.
