What do flea bites look like on humans?

On human skin, a flea bite looks quite similar to that of other small insects such as a mosquito bite. It is usually identified as a red bump with a halo pattern around it and it can feel quite itchy.

My pet has fleas- should I be worried?

Usually harmless

For most people, flea bites are an unpleasant but manageable nuisance. The level of itchiness varies from person to person, and as long as you avoid excessive scratching, the bites will typically clear up on their own.

When to take action

Those with sensitive skin may experience an allergic reaction to flea bites. Excessive scratching can also lead to a skin infection – not caused by the flea directly, but still painful.

If you have any concerns about flea bites in humans, it’s always best to seek medical advice. If flea bites occurred as a result of an infestation, you will need to treat your pet and your home to eliminate the problem and prevent reoccurrence. Read our pest guide for more information about fleas.
